Camp Ruach Chaim

By Bassi Gruen

Right off exit 96, deep in the Catskill Mountains, you will find Camp Ruach Chaim.

Play baseball, hockey, tennis, handball, and basketball, go swimming daily – all in an atmosphere of fun.

Enjoy terrific learning programs, exciting trips and cool arts and crafts.

Camp Ruach Chaim is for kids who have Down's syndrome and other disabilities, Loy Oleynu

This amazing camp began when Rabbi Simcha Scharf, Belgium-born and currently living in Williamsburg, had a dream of establishing a camp for high-functioning special-needs kids.

Rabbi Simcha Scharf had already opened a Yeshivah, Banim LaMakom, for such children before.

His Yeshivah is on the top floor of yeshivas Torah VeDa’as.

The students of Banim LaMakom eat and play with the students of Torah VeDa’as and both groups gain from the arrangement.

Summer, though, was a real problem.

Two months out of school often caused the boys to lose a great deal of what they had learnt over the year.

There had to be a solution.

A Soaring Summer Success

Rabbi Simcha Scharf is a man of action.

He spotted an advertisement from Camp Kochavim offering space on their grounds.

He immediately contacted the director, who gave him a "yes" that very same day.

That first year, there were over a dozen kids, and enrolment grows each year.

This summer, CRC will be enjoyed by thirty five boys, ages 9-27, coming from England, France, Holland, Belgium, Eretz Yisrael, and all over the United States.

"Life for a special kid is so full of failures," says Shani Plotzker, the mother of a CRC camper - "We hear them say “I can't read well, I can't do math, I can't write clearly” – yet they don’t feel inadequate.  Camp gives the kids a summer of non-stop success. They do absolutely everything their brothers and sisters are doing in camp.  Sports, trips, color war, crafts – they can do it all.

It gives them an incredible feeling.  My son couldn't hold a ball before he went to camp. He came home dunking baskets!"

Dovid Plotzker is not the only one to learn new skills in camp.  One mother was pleasantly surprised to find her eighteen year old son biking when she came on visiting day.  He had never been able to cycle before.

Another mother was amazed at how much her son had learnt with his Rebbe.

The kids learn to make their beds, clean up the bunk and care for themselves.

"Aside from all the many things camp teaches," says Shlomo, a counsellor in CRC, "learning to be independent, to manage on one's own away from home, is probably the biggest benefit."

A Packed Program

The camp day is packed: Wake up is at 7:15 a.m., although early birds get to join the Cocoa Club.  For the uninitiated, the Cocoa Club is a pre-davening learning session, accompanied by hot cocoa, a real treat in the cool mountain air. Then comes a learning session with the campers divided according to their abilities, into small groups of five or six.  They learn Chumash, Halachah and Parshah, taught by teachers who have received special training for the job.  They then move on to first activity, usually sports, followed by second activity.

"A lot of the kids would be happy just to relax on the grass," admits Rabbi Simcha Scharf, "but I don't let them. My goal is to keep them busy and active all summer long."

Lunch, canteen and rest period start the afternoon, and then the action resumes.  A dip in the pool is followed by sports together with CY.

Minchah is followed by another learning group, this time focusing on skills like reading, writing and math.

Then it's off to bed, so they can be refreshed for a new day of fun.

The parents of the campers have the joy of knowing that their son is part of a regular camp, and don't have to face the pain of seeing their son isolated from mainstream society.

Caring Counsellors

Who are the people who make all this possible? The counsellors are hand-picked for their golden hearts and skills with children.

A number of them have a sibling with Down's syndrome, so they know how to deal with these special neshamos.

There is one counsellor for every two campers, to make sure the kids have all the help and supervision they need.

If a camper is sick, his counsellor accompanies him to the infirmary.

The counsellors also stay right near their campers in the pool and on trips, to make sure they're safe and happy.

It was a fantastic experience for our son. The relief that your summer program provides to our family is immeasurable. Knowing how much Ephraim gets out of camping experience socially, spiritually and academically” E. Zussman, Denver, Colorado

Sometimes there are problems.

A child who refuses to eat, or one who eats too much.

A child who is afraid of the water, or scared of the dark.

Then the counsellors work their hardest at helping find a solution.

A chart, a prize, or a story – they keep trying, until they find the key to help this camper overcome his difficulty.

They are led in their efforts by the head counsellor, the dynamic, devoted R' Avrumi Rosenthal and Rabbi Simcha Scharf, the director, are available around the clock to help the campers and counsellors.

"Sometimes, at one o'clock in the morning I get this feeling that something isn't right," relates Rabbi Simcha Scharf. I go to the bunks and find a kid outside with his counsellor because the kid refuses to go to sleep. I'm able to persuade him to go to bed and can then sleep myself.  Sometimes it's just a blanket that fell off the kid.  I cover him and leave."

Rabbi Simcha Scharf personally dispenses all medication, a complicated and time-consuming job in a camp like this.

"The kids love him," Mrs Plotzker tells me. "He's like a magnet for them. He knows just what to say and how to say it. Once, when he heard about a family that had just given birth to a baby with Down's syndrome, he immediately went over to the hospital to give them encouragement."

A Time to Relax

During the year, special kids must labor mightily to master the basics most kids learn easily.

Understanding the words on a page may take tremendous effort.

Holding a pencil in the correct position for writing can be a true challenge.

Camp is a time to relax.

The learning sessions ensure that what they have already mastered isn't lost, but the rest of the day is pure fun.

"You can do it." is the message.  And with the help of the counsellors, they do.  They climb up walls fifty feet high, they play hockey, they water slide into the pool.   Things they never would have normally tried, they successfully accomplish.

Right off Route 96, deep in the Catskill Mountains, is a very special camp.

I suppose we can say about Camp Ruach Chaim, the same thing a grandfather said about his special-needs grandchild's classroom. "You can feel the Malochim in the air."

Rabbi Scharf can be contacted at 718-963-0090, or (cell phone) 917-754-0011.

Camp Ruach Hachaim is a registered 501(c) 20-1610041 non-profit organization.

Deciphering the Sephirah (Counting the Omer)

Welcome to 'Tell US', where we invite you to contribute a joke, a poem or a story.

This week's contribution is by Menasche Scharf, KLBD's Certification Manager.

Deciphering the Sephirah (Counting the Omer)

The seven weeks of Omer Counting started on the morrow of Pesach

so far, we counted one week and two days, keeping an eye on our goal

Sephirah is all about counting up – to a countdown to Chag Shavuot

when we received the Ten Commandments on two Tablets

Sapphire is the stone from which the Tablets were hewn

delivered to us by none other than the prophet Moses

Superman is only a fantasy; us mortals however do it slowly

our mission these days is clear: a daily improvement regimen

Safer to stand on firm ground and work our way up - step by step

no point trying to imitate fiction characters for short-lived thrills

Cypher conceals the layers of mystery shrouding the meaning of

Sephirot or Middot – the personal qualities we ought to aspire to

So that by the time we count day forty-nine and are ready

to look forward to a new ‘me’, have the cheesecake AND eat it!

A Leader in Friendliness

A Leader in Friendliness A student assigned to write an essay about an effective leader wrote this story . . . I've been taking a bus to school for years. Most passengers keep to themselves and no one ever talks to anyone else. About a year ago, an elderly man got on the bus and said loudly to the driver, ‘Good morning!’ Most people looked up, annoyed, and the bus driver just grunted. The next day the man got on at the same stop and again he said loudly, ‘Good morning!’ to the driver. Another grunt. By the fifth day, the driver relented and greeted the man with a semi-cheerful ‘Good morning!’ The man announced, ‘My name is Benny,’ and asked the driver, ‘What's yours?’ The driver said his name was Ralph. That was the first time any of us heard the driver's name and soon people began to talk to each other and say hello to Ralph and Benny. Soon Benny extended his cheerful ‘Good morning!’ to the whole bus. Within a few days his ‘Good morning!’ was returned by a whole bunch of ‘Good mornings’ and the entire bus seemed to be friendlier. People got to know each other. If a leader is someone who makes something happen, Benny was our leader in friendliness. A month ago, Benny didn't get on the bus and we haven't seen him since. Everyone began to ask about Benny and lots of people said he may have died. No one knew what to do and the bus got awful quiet again. So last week, I started to act like Benny and say, ‘Good morning!’ to everyone and they cheered up again. I guess I’m the leader now. I hope Benny comes back to see what he started.

Yakov Yosef ben Reizel will be finally arriving home to Eretz Yisroel

Yakov Yosef ben Reizel will be finally arriving home to Eretz Yisroel Date: Wed, 5 Sept 2012 at 16:19 יום בשורה היא תכלה שנה וקללותיה After four and a half years of trials and tribulations, isolated in his prison cell in Japan, Yakov Yosef ben Reizel is finally on his way home. Unimaginable mountains of red tape, that until recently seemed insurmountable, hindered and delayed the prisoner transfer procedure for what seemed like eternity. Reb Aron Nezri stood at the forefront of this painstaking campaign, that has now with great siyaate dishamye come to a close. Details of the transfer were for obvious reasons kept under wraps. As usual, Yakov Yosef has with great mesirus nefesh continued his shiurei torah diligently, and completed gomoroh masechta Shabbos just yesterday, Tuesday, when local shliach Rabbi Binyamin Edery and his family, came to pay farewell to Yakov Yosef at the Chiba Prison. Rabbi Binyamin Edery and his family have devoted unlimited care and attention to the welfare of Yakov Yosef ever since his detention. Words cannot describe the emotions. Finally, after so many years of pain and suffering, Yakov Yosef arrived at the immigration centre to prepare for his departure from Japan. Reb Aron Nezri (London) and Reb Meilech Bindinger (Antwerp) were on the phone with Yakov Yosef’s father (Bnei Brak), monitoring in real-time Yakov Yosef’s release from his jail compound and transfer to the immigration centre where procedures for his transfer to Eretz Yisroel are carried out. During the conference call whilst Yakov Yosef was at immigration, we were alerted that Yakov Yosef now had the opportunity to speak to his father for just half a minute. For the first time in four and a half years, Yakov Yosef held a telephone to his ear, and with fervor said “Boruch Matir Asurim” to which his father emotionally answered “Amen”, whilst we shed tears of gratitude and relief. The multitudes of concerned yiden across the globe who davened for Yakov Yosef and never ceased to forget his suffering; the thousands of our dear brethren who contributed towards the efforts to gain Yakov Yosef’s release, wrote letters of chizuk to Yakov Yosef, accepted upon themselves resolutions in Yakov Yosef’s merit, now rejoice along side his dear family. In conformity to Japan’s stipulations, Yakov Yosef will soon be transferred to an Israeli correctional facility. He and his family will be comforted that he is now close by, and in an environment that respects his religion and speaks his tongue. At this junction in time, we can only ask that people continue to bear Yakov Yosef ben Reizel in mind in their prayers that he should be soon unconditionally free to rejoin his family. In the best interest of Yakov Yosef, and to avoid possible negative consequences, the team of Rabonim and askonim involved, endeavoured to keep the transfer process as low profile as possible. We regret we couldn't update the tzibur on this procedure, however, our opting to confirm the good news only after Yakov Yosef was released from his cell in preparation to come home, was to circumvent damaging repercussions that past media exposure have caused. The family of Yakov Yosef, and the askonim involved, request that respect should be given to the required discretion, and they not be contacted for further details or interviews.

Mobile Phones usage in Shuls and Botey Medrash (Synagogues)

Subject: Mobile Phones usage in Shuls and Botey Medrash (Synagogues)

Background:
In Elul 5767, the Gedoley Yisroel signed a petition, requesting for more respect in Shuls by switching off mobile phones.  The letter circulated in local Shuls, as well as in London, UK and was also reprinted in Hebrew-language daily and weekly Charedi publications in Israel as well as the Jewish Tribune in London, UK.

The Problem:
When entering a Shul, which is a Mikdash Me'at (minor sanctuary, alluding to the Holy Temple, which unfortunately is not in existence, hence our use of its temporary replacement) - we have one goal in mind: to connect with our Father in heaven, to offer our supplications for sustenance, both physical and spiritual and other necessities like health, safety and similar requests.

If we can compare this daily exercise to going to meet a king, a bank manager or a doctor, it would require us to draw some parallels in our behaviour during such meetings.  We would dress in our best suit, we would polish our shoes and we would leave all our distractions behind, before entering to meet our benefactor.

Just imagine having an audience with the judge presiding over a court case that would determine whether we could be granted a reprieve for a driving offence.  During the deliberations the defendants mobile (cellular) 'phone goes off and instead of switching it off immediately, he proceeds to discuss the shopping list for dinner with his wife.  The outrage felt by the judge, the prosecutor and the defence council would not only be justified, but it is self evident that the defendant's chances for a lenient sentence would become extremely remote.

The reason for this is that he breached the protocol, he showed contempt to the court and he behaved like an irresponsible, uneducated and callous individual.

I have Hashem on the other line
The story is told of a man whose mobile went off when he was Davening.  He left the Shul and spoke one sentence into the handset, hang up and switched his handset off.  When confronted as to what he said to the caller, he responded: "I told him that he will have to forgive me as I have HaShem on the other line".

There was an attempt to compare the ban on mobiles in hospitals on the grounds of health hazards, however - according to newspaper reports - the British health authorities this claim is not valid.  Still, the jury is out whether this is really the case, as interference with medical equipment is a potential life-threatening hazard and no one should take chances when visiting their friends and family.
With regards to hotels, and some hospitals - the prevalent argument is that the management of these places are out to increase their revenue (hospitals and hotels do it to cover their ever growing deficits or to placate their shareholders...).

In the case of restaurants though, many restaurateurs will hang up a notice at the entrance to their establishment, requesting people put their mobile handsets on silent or that they switch them off completely.  The reason for this is simple: customers frequent a restaurant for its ambience and the quiet that they so need when dining out.

One should only compare the logical link between the restriction placed by governments on the use of mobiles whilst driving.  The fact that the driver cannot concentrate on the road and its environs when speaking on the phone shows that the problem is rooted in the inability of man to do two unrelated things at once.  Now how can one claim to have full concentration during the Amida when his - or his neighbour's - phone is ringing, singing or vibrating?!

After researching the claim about the efforts made by public places, it would appear that the pot is split equally between those allowing the use of mobiles on their premises - under the guise of free speech or citizens rights - and those who prohibit them for any of the respective reasons applicable to the individual institution.

According to Katie M. Lever and James E. Katz, authors of the report: Cell phones in campus libraries: An analysis of policy responses to an invasive mobile... to contemplative domains such as houses of worship and libraries (url: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VC8-4M21T70-2&_user=10&_coverDate=07%2F31%2F2007&_rdoc=1&_fmt=&_orig=search&_sort=d&view=c&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=10&md5=5cba4494780c3e73ec40d1ce1f7bd6e5 ) there is a concern shared by management of public places, which is analysed in their research piece.

(A friend of mine asked a priest who confirmed that visitors wouldn't even think of bringing their mobile 'phones with them, let alone leaving them switched on!  This claim should be researched further to corroborate its veracity.)

"
New York Drivers Will Get Points for Talking on Cell Phones

Beginning tomorrow (15/02/2011), New York drivers who are caught talking on their cell phones without a headset will gain two points on their driving records — which means higher insurance costs.  The New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced the change this week. Previously, no points were assigned for talking on a cell phone although two points are assigned for texting while driving violations. The new regulation will align the point penalty for both violations.  “Distracted driving is one of the most serious dangers on our roadways today,” said J. David Sampson, DMV executive deputy commissioner. “By strengthening the current law, our hope is that motorists will become even more aware of the potential consequences of their actions if they use a cell phone while driving.”  Ten years ago, New York became the first in the nation to adopt a state-wide ban on handheld cell phone use while driving in 2001. In 2009, a law eliminating the use of portable electronic devices for texting while driving took effect, a violation that currently has two points attached to it along with a $150 fine.  In New York, driver distraction is a contributing factor in at least one out of five crashes, officials say. Each year over 300,000 tickets are issued state-wide for cell phone violations. This E-mail is a friendly service of: Trumper Insurance - Jay Grossman"

The Solution:
To eradicate the use of mobiles in places of worship - including Kollelim, Cheder classes and Schools - a concerted effort is needed from the following persons:
Rabbis, Gaנbo'im, Heads of Educational establishments, Chosson and Kallah Teachers, lay leaders and each and every one of us.

One has to remember that whilst a mispallel does whatever he feels right in his own time, a Melamed, Teacher or Kollel man speaking on the phone, is flaunting the laws of stealing, working responsibly and earning non-Kosher wages by using 'company time' for unrelated activities.  This is besides the bad example and influence it leaves on the pupils or chavrusa.

"Please, Stop the Mobile" - that's the message that the Rabbonim are sending to Kelal Yisoel.

There are a number of initiatives that have been tested and some that are going through technical trials, to determine which solution would best serve the community in preventing the inadvertent use of mobiles during Tefilla.

There is a superfluous Vowel "Cholem" on the word "מטר" before the words "ארצכם בעתו".
Hope this can be corrected in the next edition,

Please, for the next edition of this Mincha & Ma'ariv Siddur (and indeed, all other Siddurim) can you add the following two instructions - provided these comply with Halocho:
 1. When there is no Sefer Torah in the room, Tachanun should be said without putting down your head onto your left hand arm.
 2. When a Hoyche Amida (where the Ba'al Tefilloh says only the first three Brochos and Kedushoh) is said, the Ba'al Tefilloh says Ato Kodosh - not leDor voDor.

"Normally, the word for mouths is פיות, as in the morning Torah blessings."
Please check the "morning Torah blessings" on page 182, it says "בפינו ובפי".
The same "בפינו ובפי" appears in the Routledge Machzor, United Synagogue in the UK Siddur and the Nusach haAR"I Siddur by Kehot Publications.
However in the Siddur Avodas haShem - Belz it does appear as follows: "בפינו ובפיות".

Rise, rouse others!

On the night of Rosh Hashanah, in all the synagogues in the world, we open the ark and recite excitedly: "The earth belong to G-d" and then we shout: "Who will rise to the mountain of G-d..." (Psalms 24:3). The word "rise" in Hebrew has two meanings:
1. To rise yourself.
2 To lift up Klal Yisrael.

We learn from it that on Rosh Hashanah it is not enough to rise our-self to repentance, we must make an effort to lift all our Jewish brothers to repentance!
"The Guide to the Rescue of our Jewish People" is a book that will lift you to the "Mountain of G-d", I suggest that you should order at least two books, one for yourself and one to lift up others.
You may buy the book either at 20 Shmaya Street, Bnei Brak, or by mail or by writing to the following E-mail address: a9297789@gmail.com.
Looking forward to hear from you, Leshana Tova Tikatevu Vetechatemu,

Security, Peacefulness and Happiness

From "The Guide to the Rescue of our Jewish People" Security, Peacefulness and Happiness!

by Rabbi Imanuel Ravad

19 Elul 5780 (8 September 2020)

The Jewish people are in mortal danger, where there is no fear of G-d, as declared our Forefather Abraham (Bereshit 25:11).

Peace is promised to us, on the condition that all our people will observe Torah laws (Vaikra 25).

It is incumbent on each one of us to endeavor that all our people will keep the Torah laws, as written: "When all our sons will observe Torah, there will be a great peace (Yeshayau 54:13).

In order that we should not forget this most important issue the all day every day and take it more seriously to our hearts and mind, our rabbis put it as the last verse of our morning prayer every morning.

An easy and effective way to reach fear of heaven and observance of Torah laws is through men's Mikva Immersion, with the intension to connect with prayers of the heart to G-d! The first to Immerse was Adam the first human-being! This was the first thing he did, on his first Sunday of his life on earth! - he immersed in the Shiloach spring (500 meters from the western wall), For two reasons: 1.

In order to repent and ask forgiveness for his sin.

2.  Since "sin defiles therefore repentance requires purifying immersion" (Pirkei DeRabbi Eliezer 20, Or Zarua 1:20).

What was proper and good to Adam, is certainly also good and proper for everyone! Since Immersion leads to:

1. Complete isolation from the disturbing environment.

2. Cessation of the activity of the five senses, which always preoccupy us and may interfere with the concentration of thought.

3. Stopping of breathing, when we are at the gate between life and death and in the face of death every man instinctively communicates to the Creator, in awe and fear and prays in his heart to G-d and asks of Him not only life, but also help to solve life problems.

Since there is no man without problems, as it is G-d Who creates the problems for every human-being, at any time, according to his situation, in order to motivate repentance (Tehilim 90:3).

Therefore, every man rises from the mikva with the "HOPE" (tikva) of a new and more glamorous page for his life.

This "HOPE" brings happiness and leads man to sense gratitude to G-d and to remember with greater strength that G-d too has demands of us and that we must first fulfill His requirements in order that Hashem will fulfill our requests with mercy and compassion.

At this point we are on the glorious road to repentance.

Therefore, after immersion, every man thinks differently, prays and lives differently and the life of the entire community becomes more serious – one of learning and observing all Torah laws – and the Mitzva of Jewish purity is strictly and properly observed as required – which leads to the feeling of Security, Peacefulness and Happiness! "Ashreichem Yisrael"! (you are fortunate Yisrael) proclaimed Rabbi Akiva, who lived during the destruction of the "Mikdash".

As long as the "Mikdash" existed, G-d cleaned our sins like snow! As written: "I will throw upon you purifying water and you will be pure…" (Yechezkel 36:25) - and now that the Mikdash is ruined, we should not despair since we still have: "mikva trough which Hashem is purifying us" (Yirmiah 17:13, Yoma 85:).

Therefore, although now-a-days men have no Torah obligation to mikva immersion, nevertheless due to the positive results, it is of great importance! Since the subject is not sensitive, it is easy to speak about and to convince men to immerse; and when men immerse the entire holiness of the life of the family gets the proper observance.

It is preferable to build the men's mikva in the synagogue compound, in order to allow a direct ascent from the prayer of the heart to G-d in the mikva - to the fervor of prayer in the synagogue, without having to pass through the distracting street-views.

The opening words of the Torah - "Bereishit Bara" is a theme of faith in the Creator of the world and the word "Mikva" appears in the tenth verse.

Our sages understood that the oral Torah too, must begin:

1.  On the subject of faith, since faith is the one that gives the urge and power to observe Torah laws, as well as the issue of Cohanim (men) mikva immersion since it strengthens faith from inner feelings.

The Jew declares his faith in the Creator of the world by the verse "Hear, O Israel" [-Shma Yisrael] - "The L-rd our G-d" - "One"! And we must declare this faith at least twice daily, evening and morning and before public reading of the Torah.

The opening sentence of the Talmud is a question of time: "From when the evening's declaration of faith is said” and instead of quoting a time, the Rabbis answer: "from the rising of the evening stars" - the Talmud brings the issue of Cohanim’s (priests) mikva immersion before eating "sacred food".

Since Mikva immersion is strengthening the faith from inner feeling which gives the impulse and power to keep the Torah Laws! Before the "Sinai Revelation", all our people had to mikva immerse.

Among other reasons – in order that the revelation will be with faith in Hashem and mikva immersion is strengthening this faith! During the journey in the desert, men who did not Mikva immerse, the clouds of honor threw them out of the camp and only from them Amalek managed to kill (Shmot 17: 8, Devorim 25:17, pirkey D'rabi Eliezer 44).

The people of Israel left Egypt with 600,000 men, plus women, the elders and childrens, It is a large number of millions of people.

The Israel camp was spread over a large area of 12 miles long, how did the water for drinking, bathing and mikva immersing got everywhere? It is stated in the Midrash that in each new parking, each tribe president made with his stick a line from the miraculous well of Miriam to the tribe, these lines became rivers and lakes that were also used as water transportation by boats.

As written: "who turns a rock to rivers and lakes" (Tehilim 74:15, 78:16, M.R. Chukat Chap. 19).

Anyone, even in a state of purity, is not permitted to enter the Mikdash without Mikva immersion, immediately before entering! One of the reasons might be in order to remind us: "before whom do we stand? – in the house of G-d" (Yoma 30).

"Repent a day before your death ..." (Avot 2: 10) and since no one knows the day of his death, we must repent every day and since repentance needs mikva immersion (and for other reasons) there are those who immerse daily before morning prayer.

The Rambam (Maimonides) declared that he never missed his mikva immersion! (Rabbeinu Yonah, Brachot 13, Ri"f).

In most synagogues of the Hasidim and others, those who did not immerse before the Morning Prayer cannot serve as a cantor and / or can't be called to the reading of the Torah and/or other honors.

Most Admorim and great rabbis usually do not shake hands with those who did not immerse in the mikva that day.

It is interesting that many of them are able to recognize, from the facial radiance of a person, whether he has been immersed in the mikva today or not.

Important for everyone and most important for educators to read the Commentary "Maor Vashamesh" on Vayikra 21: Other obligations and customs of men's mikva immersion:

1. Yom Kippur eve, "immersions for the sake of repentance" (שו"ע או"ח, מג"א).

2. Groom on the day of his wedding, also a custom to fast until the "Chupa", a prayer to "Binyan Adey-Ad".

3. Before the Brit-Mila - circumcision, the father, the Mohel and the Sandak.

4. Before the mitzvot which required bodily activities:

A. Shofar blowing

B. Chanuka candle lighting.

C. Kosher slaughtering.

D. Scribe before writing Torah, Tefilin and Mezuzot.

Some immerse also before writing each of the name of "Shem-Hashem".

E.  There are those who also immerse before personal prayer for special problems and requests.

It is also customary, at least to wash the hands (Netilat-Yadayim) before each of the prayers and therefore in all synagogues there is a water faucet and a tumbler for Netilat-Yadayim near the entrance.

Unfortunately today we are the only country in the world threatened with total annihilation, by a country with which we share no border.

They have no particular reason to destroy us, as 70 years ago they were actually a very important ally of the State of Israel.

At the Passover Seder we declare yearly: "In every generation, people rise to destroy us and Hashem rescues us from them!" However the price of our rescue can be high or low, depending on the repentance of all our people.

An example of differences in the price of rescue: 2300 years passed between Haman – the Wicked and the German oppressor, both of whom tried to destroy the entire Jewish people around the world.

However Thanks to Mordechai the Righteous, when our entire nation repented and no one was Harmed, as it is written: "Observed and accepted upon themselves" (Megilat Esther 9:27).

On the other hand - the price of rescue from the German oppressor cost us with the Holocaust That was unparalleled in human history and destroyed a third of our people! Since the establishment of the state we went through 7 wars.

Statistically the price of the wars and the killings during 72 years is about one person killed per day, G-d forbid.

We are still the only country in the world today that threatened with annihilation, G-d forbid.

"The Whip of the Arab Oil": Rivers and oil lakes are underground and they burst out where the Creator decides.

Since the establishment of the State of Israel, almost everywhere there are Arabs, there is oil, which gives the Arabs the wealth and power to fight against the State of Israel (before the establishment of the state, most Arab countries were poor and failing).

Today the "Arab Oil" serves as a "Whip of Hashem" who clearly hints us that we must repent and bring our whole nation back to repentance.

Assimilation and Intermarriage: In the desert journey, in the Shittim, before our people entered the land of Israel, 25% made contact with the daughters of Moav.

Immediately an epidemic broke out, 24,000 people died on the first day and all the other sinners died during two months, until our people crossed the Jordan and G-d declared that without Pinchas who stopped the issue, G-d thought to annihilate the entire Jewish People, G-d forbid (Bamidbar 25:11).

Unfortunately today Many Jewish communities around the world are being wiped off of the Jewish horizon due to assimilation and intermarriage.

In the last 10 years, in the USA our people have lost about 2 million brothers.

In Eretz Israel too, there is assimilation, since most of our people do not vote for parties whose main agenda is the observance of Torah laws.

The Talmud states that until the final redemption it is important for Jews to live around the world (Pesachim 87, Rashi).

Therefore it is clear that the state of assimilation and intermarriage around the world is a problem of every Yid, even to all the Yidden who are living in Israel, since we are all in the same boat (Current rate of intermarriage, as reported at recent international rabbinical conferences: USA 75%, Europe 85%, Sweden 95%, Bulgaria 98%).

It is incumbent on each one of us to see to it that all the Jews of the world keep Torah laws! We have letters describing the many practical results from places around the world, as you can see in the article of "Results".

It is therefore the duty of each and every one not to be satisfied by reading this page, but also to act with the necessary seriousness; as anyone can! Lately the "Corona" plague is threatening everyone with sickness and death.

Today it is clear to all that Hashem demands from each of us to repent and bring our entire nation to repentance.

In this merit may Hashem wipe off this plague from our people and from the entire world.

To educate more than 10,000,000 brothers, costs millions and cannot be achieved with symbolic Dollar donations.

It is appropriate for each one to consider that in order to achieve real and serious results, each one must endeavor to donate or raise each year an amount at least equal to his family's yearly mikva expenses.

Every donation will be sincerely acknowledged and gratefully blessed.
