Voice and Nusach Lessons

Voice and Nusach Lessons

The first thing is to teach voice, discipline and technique - only thereafter can they learn Nusach and Chazanut.

Keep your voice at top performance
Sleep with a cut onion, so that the juices should cleanse the air in the room.

Visit a sauna and when leaving, make sure you do not enter the cold outdoors without covering your head and neck with a coat and scarf.  Same when leaving the Mikveh, swimming pool or barber

Wrap a scarf around your throat for the four weeks before you need to perform (or all year round, if you need to perform every day / week).

Use the pastilles from Vocal Zone or the Fisherman’s Friend mints to clear your throat.

Use HACCP Certified drops from TMRG to improve the vocal cords +447587554350.

Drop five pieces of black liquorice, made by Panda® into a tea mug with boiling water. Stir for a minute and then wait five minutes until it is of drinkable temperature.  When finished, collect them with a teaspoon and slowly swallow the leftovers.  After a week, repeat the procedure, but add on more piece of the black stuff.  Do the same for another three weeks and then keep to six pieces in hot water.

Alternatively, use honey, freshly-squeezed lemon juice, raw ginger and pieces of Panda® liquorice in half a cup of hot water.  Finish it after waiting five miuntes, when it is just too hot to imbibe.

Take a teaspoon of Extra Virgin, Cold Pressed, Pure Olive Oil every day

Alternatively, gurgle with a raw egg; use only the white.

Alternatively, gurgle with Listerine® or equivalent Anti-Bacteria mouthwash.

Tips for better voice management:

The first thing to do in the morning is to lift your head (as if you're looking for something on top of a tall cupboard) until the mucus and phlegm in the sinuses (= the spaces around your forehead and face that are usually empty) make their way down into your throat.  You can now either swallow (ugh!) or spit it out, which menas your voice resonance is ready to resonate.

Clean your mouth, throat of saliva; cough a few times to ensure all is clear - no mater how much noise you make when coughing, it's worth it...

Blow your nose and clean it thoroughly – remember to look in the mirror if there’s anything stuck on your nose…

Walk briskly for half an hour to warm your body, including the vocal cords (muscles, larynx, voice-box) in your throat.

Alternatively, learn aloud for about an hour before you start your part, enunciating every word – to massage your vocal cords.

If you do not have enough time before the start of Davening, Daven at the lowest possible scale, enunciating every word – to massage your vocal cords.
