On the second day of Rosh Chodesh Ellul, we had a an occasion to celebrate the eleventh anniversary of Start Your Day The Torah Way in South Tottenham, North London aka Stamford Hill.
Rabbi Moshe Margulies, who has been managing this august Shiur for a decade introduced the event and explained how this year’s anniversary was brought forward to the first week of Ellul, unlike the regular anniversaries in other years that are held on the second week – when the Shiur originally started.
The regular daily Shiur was eloquently delivered by Rabbi Dovid Grynhaus Shlita, Dayan on the Kashrus Board of the UOHC. The Shiur centered on the upcoming High Holy Days and the ramifications for Jew and non-Jew alike. The Dayan also mentioned that on Yom Kippur we were given the second Luchos, which adds another dimension to the significance of Yom Kippur – the day of atonement.
The annual report was read by Rabbi Elimelech Levy, Rov of the Palmers Green and New Southgate United Synagogue Shul, who enumerated the many topics, speakers and ma’alos of this Torah-dige learning initiative. He finished with a heartfelt thanks to the Rabbonim – some of whom were present in the room to join the festivities - who spare no effort to come and lecture to the eager listeners, especially when most local residents went looking for greener pastures during the three weeks of summer holidays. Rabbi Levy also highlighted the fact that this Shiur is unlike others, that it has been running uninterrupted for so many years, including Erev Yom Kippur, Purim and similar days when people would otherwise miss a day of learning. Not so the Talmidim of Srta Your Day The Torah Way: they keep coming for more and Baruch HaShem the esteemed speakers never let them down, not for content and neither for quality.
There was an added portion of Torah learning this Sunday in the form of a celebratory Droshoh by Rabbi Nosson Binjomin Eckstein Shlita, Dayan of the Belz Shtiebel at 49 Kilda, to commemorate this auspicious milestone. The Dayan elaborated on the historical importance of Rosh Chodesh Ellul, when Moshe Rabbenu was told to ascend Mount Sinai to collect the second Luchos.
Light refreshments were served to mark the programme's anniversary, which could only have happened through the direct input of our three Moshe’s: Rabbi Moshe Glausiusz, the Gabbai of the Biala Beis Medrash who generously allows us the use of the premises. Mr Moshe Milner, long-standing impresario who faithfully introduces every speaker, Reb Moshe also keeps a diary of all the Shiurim in his inimitable style and he also prepares the weekly printout of speakers – cherished by all Shiur-goers, who refer to them to know who is speaking when. Last but not least: the indefatigable Rabbi Moshe Margulies - who has been the mainstay of the Shiur throughout the years.
A special vote of thanks was lauded to Mr Dovid Cohen, one of the stalwarts of the Shiur who with his ebullient voice read chapter 121 of Tehillim (Psalms), for the salvation of all ailments suffered by Jewish people worldwide.
