Subject: Rav Leperer zt"l

Rav Shlomo Bentzion Leperer zt"l grew up in the East End of London and was a close talmid of Rav Greenspan zt"l (מחבר  of מלאכת מחשבת). Rav Leperer knew both the Bavli and Yerushalmi, this is because Rav Greenspan was taught by the רידב"ז  who wrote a peirush on the Yerushalmi.

When Rav Leperer was still a young man (of around 23) Rav Koppul Kahana (talmid of the Chofetz Chayim) would ask him to take over giving shiur if he ever got stuck on a Tosfos.

Rav Leperer was also a historian and knew about almost every sefer ever printed as well the contents of many of them. I think he and Dr Rosenfeld would get along very well (though to be honest Rav Leperer got along well with everybody!)

He did not dress formally and he couldn't grow a beard - he was the type of person you might mistake for the caretaker. He would often travel far on public transport even late at night to teach Torah free of charge. I don't think he had even a שמינית שבשמינית של גאווה  in him.

Unfortunately he and his rebbitzen were not zoche to children to their own biological children. But as Chazal say - כל המלמד בן חבירו תורה מעלה עליו הכתוב כאילו ילדו  - and he had many talmidim over the years.

His full name is ר' שלמה בנציון בן ר' יהושע לעפערער

He was niftar on י"ג כסלו תשנ"ו.

יהי זכרו ברוך
