CHAPTER 1: The Sinai War and Return
1 In 1956, the people of Israel were being harassed and attacked by Egypt.
2 When Israel advanced into the Sinai Desert, the Lord delivered the Egyptians into their hands. In just 100 hours, they conquered all the territory up to the Suez Canal.
3 But the nations became angry and said to Israel, "You must give back this land."
4 Then the Lord sent a prophet named Menachem Schneerson, who said, "This is what the Lord says: 'Be strong and do not give away the land that I have given you through obvious miracles.
5 If you remain firm, the nations will accept your conquest of Sinai. But if you give it back, the Arabs will attack again from there.'" But Ben-Gurion did not listen and gave back the Sinai.
CHAPTER 2: The Six Day War
1 In 1967, Egypt, Jordan, and Syria rose up and said, "Let us wipe Israel off the map."
2 Their armies and air forces vastly outnumbered Israel's by fifty to one.
3 Many in Israel were terrified and said, "We would have been better off not coming to this land only to be destroyed as the Germans had done to us."
4 When Levi Eshkol addressed the nation, he stammered and stuttered, causing many soldiers to break their radios in frustration.
5 That very day, God sent his prophet Menachem who said, "The people of Israel are in a situation where God is protecting them and sending his salvation."
6 The Rebbe declared that through the merit of Jewish men wearing tefillin, God would grant them a great victory.
7 When students asked if they should leave Israel, the Rebbe replied, "Continue your studies. The Guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. You will hear good news."
8 The people broadcast the Rebbe's words on radio and published them in all the major newspapers. Many put on tefillin.
9 Then Israel overwhelmed the surrounding armies and captured the Sinai, Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the Golan Heights, for the Lord was with them.
10 While Israel was rejoicing, they announced, "We will return the land we have conquered."
11 But Menachem declared, "This is what the Lord says: Do not give back the land that God has given you through obvious miracles.
12 If you do this, or even discuss it, it will lead to much bloodshed among the Israelites. It will not bring peace but war.
13 Do not fear American pressure or the nations' opinions. Instead, do what is necessary to protect your citizens."
CHAPTER 3: Of the Bar-Lev Line and the War of Atonement
1 And it came to pass that the generals of Israel said, Let us build a mighty fortification along the banks of Suez.
2 And they purposed to build three lines of defense, and called it the Bar-Lev Line, and made thereof a great rampart of sand and concrete.
3 And the Rebbe sent word unto Ariel Sharon and unto the generals saying, This Bar-Lev Line shall surely bring disaster unto Israel.
4 Build not three lines of defense, but gather all thy forces into one line, lest ye be scattered and overcome.
5 But the generals hearkened not unto his voice, and built the Bar-Lev Line according to their own wisdom.
6 Then spake the children of Israel, saying, Let us make a cease-fire with the Egyptians.
7 But the Rebbe warned them, saying, Make not a cease-fire, for it shall but strengthen the hand of thine enemy.
8 Yet they made a cease-fire, and straightway did the Egyptians bring their SAM missiles unto the banks of Suez.
9 And in those days did Ariel Sharon purpose to travel by air, but the Rebbe stayed him, saying, Go not up in the aircraft this day.
10 And behold, that very aircraft was taken by hijackers, who sought for Sharon among the passengers but found him not, for the Rebbe had saved him.
11 And it came to pass in the summer of the year 1973 that the Rebbe warned the people, saying, We must gather the children to recite the twelve verses, for they have power to destroy our enemies.
12 But the people wondered at his words, for they said, Behold, we dwell safely, and no harm shall come nigh us.
13 Yet the Rebbe continued to cry unto all who would hear, saying, Gather ye the children, for they shall bring protection unto Israel.
14 Then on the Day of Atonement, even as the people fasted, the Egyptians and Syrians came against Israel unawares.
15 Now Golda Meir had received intelligence that they would attack, but she said, We cannot call up our reserves, neither can we strike first, lest we find not favour in the eyes of America and the nations.
16 And the Bar-Lev Line, wherein they trusted, was overcome as a wall of sand before the flood.
17 And thousands of the children of Israel were slain and wounded, and many aircraft were destroyed by the SAM missiles which the Egyptians had placed during the cease-fire.
18 And great fear fell upon all Israel, for they said, Surely this is the end of our nation.
19 Then sent Menachem an urgent message unto Moshe Dayan, saying, Fear not, for victory shall yet be ours, but ye must press on unto Damascus and unto Cairo.
20 And the LORD wrought a great miracle, for the Egyptians halted in their advance when victory was within their grasp.
21 And behold, eight tanks of Israel held back three hundred Syrian tanks in the north, and prevailed against them.
22 Then did the tanks of Israel win a mighty victory and advanced toward Damascus and toward Cairo.
23 But when they were come within forty miles of these cities, they halted.
24 And the Rebbe cried out, saying, This is a grievous error.
25 But Moshe Dayan answered and said, We cannot take these cities, for the rocks in the roads are too great for our forces to pass.
26 And they made a cease-fire, for the Americans pressed them sore, and Israel had no complete victory at the negotiating table.
27 And all these things came to pass according as the Rebbe had warned, for they had trusted in the Bar-Lev Line rather than in the LORD, and had sought the favour of nations rather than the protection of the Holy One of Israel.
CHAPTER 4: The Peace with Egypt
1 Later, the Egyptians demanded the return of the Sinai from Israel.
2 When Menachem Begin met with the Rebbe at his study house in Crown Heights, the Rebbe warned him, "Stand firm and do not give up the land."
3 The Rebbe said, "You are repeating your ancestors' mistake, for they gave up Sinai in 1957 and it brought war."
4 Then Sadat, the Egyptian president, came to Jerusalem and spoke persuasively to the people.
5 At Camp David, President Carter pressured Israel, and Begin gave Egypt the Sinai, the oil wells, and the Eitam airfield, saying, "This will bring peace."
6 But the Rebbe said, "This is not peace but surrender, and it will lead to more wars."
CHAPTER 5: The Lebanon War
1 After this, the Palestinians attacked Israel from Lebanon, killing many Israelis and firing Katyusha rockets at the Galilee.
2 Begin launched an offensive into Lebanon, ordering Rafael Eitan and Ariel Sharon to strike the PLO.
3 The nations protested, saying, "How terrible that you have invaded Lebanon! You are acting wickedly! Stop at once!"
4 Philip Habib, the American envoy, demanded, "Halt at Beirut."
5 But the Rebbe said, "Move quickly and pursue them, for the Lord has given them into your hands. Do not stop or agree to a ceasefire.
6 If you stop at Beirut, the terrorists will escape and return to attack you again."
7 But Israel said, "What will the world think?" and agreed to multiple ceasefires. Nine hundred Israeli soldiers died.
8 They waited at Beirut for four months and allowed the terrorists to escape by ship to Tunisia, saying, "Now they won't harm us anymore."
9 But the Rebbe warned, "They will return stronger than before and fight against you, because you didn't destroy them completely."
10 So it has continued to this day: Lebanon has become a haven for terrorists who have grown stronger and more numerous, establishing Hezbollah and Hamas.
11 They have allied with Iran and built missiles and underground tunnels.
12 Thousands of Israelis have died at their hands, and both the north and Gaza have been devastated, because they did not listen to the word of the Lord through his prophet, the Rebbe.
CHAPTER 6: The Intifada and Madrid Conference
1 When Arabs within Israel began killing many Israelis through attacks in cities and on roads,
2 the people of Israel said, "Let's negotiate with them and offer them autonomy."
3 But the Rebbe warned, "Do not speak of autonomy or negotiate with them. This will only lead to more attacks.
4 Even discussing such things will encourage them to kill more Israelis."
5 But Shamir said, "What will America say?" and went to Madrid to negotiate with the Palestinians.
CHAPTER 7: The Gulf War and Russian Immigration
1 Then Iraq declared, "We will destroy Israel with our Scud missiles."
2 But the Rebbe said, "Do not be afraid, for the Lord is protecting you. This marks the beginning of the messianic era."
3 Iraq launched thirty-nine Scud missiles, but only one person died, and that from a heart attack caused by fear.
4 During this time, the Rebbe said, "Build housing for the Russian immigrants, for they are surely coming."
5 But the government replied, "They won't come," and didn't build the housing.
6 Then hundreds of thousands of Russian immigrants arrived, and there weren't enough homes for them.
CHAPTER 8: The Oslo Accords
1 Then Rabin said, "Let us make peace." He shook hands with Arafat and promised many concessions.
2 The Rebbe's warning spread throughout Israel: "Even discussing giving away land endangers Jewish lives."
3 But they did not listen, and hundreds of Israelis died in terror attacks.
4 In 2000, Barak announced, "Let us make peace with the Palestinians."
5 The Rebbe's followers warned, "Don't even speak of giving away land. The Rebbe said such talk itself brings danger."
6 Nevertheless, Barak offered Arafat ninety percent of Judea and Samaria.
7 In response, the Palestinians killed thousands of Israelis and fired rockets from Gaza into Israel.
CHAPTER 9: The Gaza Withdrawal
1 Then the Israelites said, "Let's give Gaza to the Palestinians so we can have peace."
2 The Rebbe's followers warned, "This will bring war, not peace."
3 But Israel gave Gaza to the Palestinians anyway. Since then, they have fought five wars in Gaza.
4 The Palestinians have killed thousands of Israelis and fired tens of thousands of rockets from Gaza.
5 They have smuggled weapons through the Sinai desert—the very land Israel had given to Egypt.
CHAPTER 10: The Captivity and War
1 When Hamas captured Gilad Shalit,
2 many of the Rebbe's followers said, "The Rebbe warned us not to exchange many terrorists for one Jew, as it would lead to more bloodshed."
3 But Netanyahu traded more than a thousand terrorists for Gilad Shalit.
4 Later, Hamas killed over a thousand Israelis, wounded thousands more, and took hundreds captive, fulfilling the warnings that the Lord had given through the Rebbe.
5 When Israeli forces entered Gaza and Lebanon and killed many terrorists,
6 they continued providing food and water to civilians, saying, "We must care about world opinion."
7 Hamas responded, "We won't return the hostages unless you release thousands of terrorists."
8 So Israel released thousands of terrorists in exchange for a few hostages.
9 They agreed to a ceasefire and withdrew from much of Gaza and Lebanon, fearing international criticism.
CHAPTER 11: The Final Understanding
1 Finally, some Israelis understood why the Rebbe had quoted the prophecy: "I called but no one answered, why did I come and find no one?"
2 They understood why he had wept,
3 and why he had spoken so often about not giving away the land.
4 For he had foreseen generations of tears resulting from their failure to heed his warnings about showing weakness against terrorism,
5 about yielding to American pressure,
6 and about giving away the land that the Lord had given them through obvious miracles.
7 All these things happened just as the Lord had spoken through his prophet, the Rebbe.
