Warnings

1) Talking about hotels or rentals in general, be sure not to pay upfront before verifying that you are dealing with a scammer.  In July 02 2026 someone paid thousands of £££'s for a place in Switzerland and when he arrived, the place was deserted with a sign saying: "This establishment is closed for the summer season".  Another tip: Try to pay with HSBC bank, as they did take action and - despite the fact that the eMail address of the scammer was already closed - managed to recoup the money and return it to the defrauded client.

2) Never try to set up a Mikve on a balcony, certainly not in a flat that is on the first, second or sixth floor . . .  Experts recommend checking the load-bearing capacity before any unusual installations.  Ask yourself the most simple question: Is it even allowed to put a pool on a balcony?  The problem lies in the weight of the water. One cubic meter of water corresponds to 1,000 liters - and weighs around a ton (= 1,000Kg).  Even small pools can therefore add several hundred kilograms to a balcony within a few square meters.  For example, in Switzerland, residential balconies are generally built in accordance with the SIA 261 standard so that they can bear a load of at least 350 kilograms per square meter.  The decisive factors are the size of the balcony, the amount of water and the question of how the pool will be emptied again later.

Travel kit checklist - add magnet for fridge and plasters (NOT masking or brown tape; they leave marks on the fridge!) to fix the Neodymium magnet to the fridge (available from Magnet Order Form - Kehillas Federation).  Also, remember to stick a big piece of paper on the fridge that says “DON'T FORGET TO TAKE OUT THE LIGHT BULB BEFORE SHABBOS”.

London Luton Airport

In Luton Airport you'll find a weighing scale for suitcases and other pieces of luggage.  Do not pay a penny to use it, as the contraption is too small for regular suitcases, hence the weight is registered completely wrong.

Use the Luton DART Direct Air-Rail shuttle, which will take you from Luton Airport to King's Cross within less than 30 minutes. See: ww.lutondart.com.

Whenever you travel during a holiday period (e.g. schools are closed for half-term or summer holidays), add another hour to the start of to your itinerary.  This is so you arrive in the airport with ample time to queue up for checking in - whether or not you have a suitcase.

No need to keep a One Pound Coin in your pocket, when travelling via Terminal Five of Heathrow Airport, for the following two reasons:

1. Because trolleys are free of charge and

2. The coin will cause you a delay at the security checking gates...

When you arrive to your destination, wait at least fifteen minutes before switching your mobile from Aeroplane Mode to the General Profile.  This will save you ten minutes of anxiety, when you start panicking if your mobile will work in the country you arrived in or not.

When travelling with a disabled person, the need to take off shoes or walk through the magnetic security gate is waived - throughout all UK airports.

Have a safe trip!
