MikveLeaks

As the Yiddish saying goes:

Since pre-memory days Yidden used to update themselves in the local Mikveh (=bath house), where all the news, gossip and jokes were traded amongst the wet patrons, the sweaty labourers and the steamy youngsters.  Between the lathe and the wash-down, you could hear who lost his business, which office block went at auction or whose car was towed away (depending on the exact point in our long history of shmooze).

Nowadays, as the showers are running at full blast, one has to literally shout above the din - not for everyone.  So the alternative is to have it out in the warm, waters of the basin, where the longer you stay - the more informed you become of the stories that are making waves (excuse the pun).

MikveLeaks - unlike WikiLeaks - are so sophisticated that news stories is being announced even before they happen.

The story is told of the American president (pick your favourite) who was told about this phenomena, so he wanted to see it first hand.  Disguising himself as a Chossid he entered a Mikve in Brooklyn and duly started undressing.  An eerie silence reigned in the room, as people - in various stages of dressing and undressing - were silently preparing themselves for the incoming Shabbos.  Not knowing what's suddenly changed from what he was told, he turned to his neighbour and - in his best Yiddish that he could muster, which he picked up in his Shabbos-Goy days - asked his neighbour on the bench: "Vos iz azoy shtil haynt?" (why is it so quiet today?).  The answer more than confirmed what he wanted to hear, as the guy sitting next to him told him in an undertone - whilst tying his shoelaces: didn't you hear what they were telling two days ago, that the president of the United States would be visiting today, for the purpose of listening in on our conversation?!"

So if someone tells you WIkiLeaks is a new invention, just lead him down to the Mikve...

Shulem
Hope you and all had an easy trip home.

Thank you and the whole team for joining us for Shabbos and making Shabbat UK 16 such an amazing successful Shabbos. I always feel that the main task we have to do to bring Yidin closer to Yidshkeit is create Kiddush Hashem and you all most definitely created that.

You connected very well with he Kehila, you never looked down at them, you treated them with Kovod, you made them laugh and you made them cry - a true Kiddush Hashem.

Me and my family also gained a tremendous amount of Chizuk from your visit, especially Sruly, who felt very proud of being a chasid.

Please pass on my thanks and maybe we will repeat this again.

Jewish Survival - Part XII

In Memory of our mother Rachel

The date of her passing – י"א חשון  (the 11th of Cheshvan)

Rachel was endowed with the virtues of modesty and silence.[1]

Rachel and Leah grew up without their mother who had passed away.[2]

Jacob[3] arrives at Lavan’s house after staying 14 years in the Yeshiva of Shem and Ever, where he learned Torah. When he met Rachel, a handsome and beautiful woman, he knew she was meant to be his wife, and the next seven years pass with anticipation to their marriage while Rachel embroidered and prepared her wedding gown.

Leah on the other hand, even before Jacob arrived at the Lavan’s house, knew that she was Esau’s intended as the oldest was matched to the oldest (Leah to Esau) and the youngest to the youngest (Rachel to Jacob) and on hearing of his acts and evil deeds she prayed and cried ‘til her eyelashes fell out (and Leah's eyes were soft). And she begged G-d that she be blessed with a righteous groom and that she not end up with Esau. And she suddenly heard that Esau sold his birthright to Jacob and her hope to marry Jacob was closer than ever.
Jacob taught Rachel the laws of family purity, candle lighting and challah; the three basic commandments unique to women in establishing a Jewish Home. Since he suspects Lavan’s deception he arranges with her that on their wedding night he would ask her the laws, and her answers would be the signs that in fact it is Rachel.
Lavan required partners to his deception, he gathers the locals and reminds them that the plenty and the blessings in the drinking water, food and sheep, began when Jacob arrived. With their help, Leah will arrive at the chuppah and in order to marry Rachel, as well, Jacob will have to remain an additional seven years and the blessings will continue.
They collaborate with him and sing “Ha Laya, Ha Laya” (meaning he deserves such a bride). If Jacob would protest against them, they could defend themselves by saying that they hinted to him all night, saying: “she is Leah, she is Leah” according to Medrash Raba Chapter 70, section 19.
The lofty highlight from that hour until the end of time, was that the minute Rachel saw her father preparing Leah for the chuppah, and she understood how embarrassed and humiliated she would feel, in her modesty and silence she magnanimously surpassed her virtues in a matter unlike any other.
“And she said to her (Rachel to Leah) Is it a small matter for you to take my husband? And would you take my son's mandrakes also?" (Genesis 30:15)
Leah’s grievance against Rachel, years after their marriage, sheds precious light and intensifies the luminous soul of Rachel, who gave her life for Leah, when she taught the laws that Jacob taught her, family purity, challah and candle lighting and did it in such a natural manner, without letting her know of the signs that she and Jacob had agreed upon. Leah never knew of Rachel’s sacrifice and devotion on her behalf.
Rachel, that night, surpassed her virtues nobly. Had she cried out against the wrong done to her, the evening would have become a fiery quarrel and disagreement with strife of shame and disgrace, which at once, Rachel prevented with her concession and silence. Rabbi Dessler explains in his book, “Michtav MeEliyahu”, when a person surpasses his virtues and prevents a rift and divisiveness and creates peace and unity, it is there that G-d’s presence is found.  Therefore, if a person overrides his virtues, it is atonement for his misdeeds. He becomes another person, and his lot is changed with a golden opportunity to ask G-d for a blessing. The extent of the difficulty of restraint and devotion to avoid hurting others also opens the door to the greatest reward.
And Jacob, despite his grief and disappointment that it was not Rachel still increased his love for her "and he loved ... Rachel from Leah" (Genesis29:30) meaning from the story of Rachel giving the signs and her dedication to Leah, his love and appreciation for her increased.
“And G-d remembered Rachel and opened her womb” he remembered her for her transferring of the signs and blessed her with the creation of a womb and as such she is a partner to the blessings of the 12 tribes.
Her grave site has become one of the centers of prayer for generations, and even the other nations knew this and it says “by the rivers of Babylon there we sat down and wept” the crying began after the destruction of Jerusalem but captors received orders from above to run the Jewish captives who were bound, not allowing them to stop on the way at the tomb of Rachel; then their cries and prayers there, may change their destiny for the better. Therefore, the first time they were allowed to sit, to rest and cry of their bitter lot after the malicious run, when they arrived at the rivers of Babylon. Only then “we sat down and we wept”.

And it is told, the forefathers and mothers went to appease G-d’s anger over Menashe’s placement of an idol in the Temple. Our father, Abraham, who sacrificed his life when he entered the fiery furnace and publicized the name of G-d in the world, came. Our father, Isaac, came with a simple offering, prepared and ready to sacrifice on the altar, and Jacob who was the chosen among the forefathers, the only one whose name is engraved on the Seat of Glory. They all tried to appease unsuccessfully until Rachel arrived and said: Ruler of the Universe, I brought trouble into my house when all the work that Jacob did in my father’s house was for me, and when I was ready to come to the chuppah and they brought my sister instead, and it wasn’t enough that I was silent, but also gave her my signs. If they brought your trouble (idolatry) into your home, you should also be quiet for them. G-d immediately said to Rachel, you have learned defense well, and there is merit to your actions and your fairness. G-d was appeased and his anger at Israel subsided.
King Saul and Johnathon his son[4] were descendants of Rachel.  There was a wonderful friendship between David and Johnathan to the point where Johnathan was prepared to give up the crown for David. King Saul and his sons were killed at war, and in King David’s eulogy of Johnathan (descendant of Leah) he adds “your love for me was greater than a woman’s love”. He wants to say: The power of your waiver, Johnathan, “my brother” to give up the crown that you were supposed to inherit from your father, King Saul, stems from the power and merit of Rachel (your grandmother) who relinquished on behalf of Leah (my grandmother) on her wedding night.

When Jacob returned to the Land of Israel with his entire family, his flock and his possessions he meets Esau, who asks him who are they to you? Jacob answers him: ”the children who G-d endowed to your servant.”
He uses the Hebrew word חנן – each of those three Hebrew letters are an acronym for חלה (challah,) נר (ner) and נידה (nida,) referring once more to the three basic commandments unique to women of challah, lighting candles and family purity; the basis for family life among the Jewish people.
By observance of the mitzvah of immersion in the mikvah, which involves relinquishing the closest connection during the banned period, we merit the virtue of Rachel and are worthy of the blessing of G-d upon us and our descendants.

The Key To  Jewish Survival

Jewish Survival - Part XI

In memory of our mother Rachel

Dear esteemed friends,

As you know, I have worked for many years devoting body and soul to the subject of FAMILY PURITY.
In the past year, my family has assisted me in preparing a booklet on this subject (based on articles I have written over the years) in a fine style and befitting women of Israel, and we are beginning to print and distribute these brochures in all the mikvehs in Israel, in accordance with the number of women who visit each mikveh.

We have now translated the articles into English and we are sending them to you. Attached hereto are the first two articles: for the month of  Tishrei - "Three Partners in Man" and for the month of Cheshvan: "In memory of our mother  Rachel" whose yahrtzeit occurs this Sabbath. Every few days, we will send you one or two more articles translated to English (a total of 12 articles).
You may distribute them publicly.

We are turning to you, requesting assistance in the form of a donation for the printing of this booklet. Every contribution will be gladly accepted.

Anyone interested in donating in memory of a loved one may send a letter with the name of the loved one.
Printing 100 booklets will cost: 60$ for the requested name in memorial. (We will send you in return the Hebrew booklet with the requested name in memorial, the name of the mikva with its address and phone number where these booklets have been distributed)

In conclusion, I would like to add what the Chofetz Chaim expressed in the matter of family purity, those who work for it and support it: “May my portion be with them” – what tremendous reward awaits them in the World to Come.

Sincerely,

Imanuel Ravad

Jewish Survival - Part X

15 Menachem-Av 5776 – (19.8.016)
"La-Ishah Amar!" (Bereshit 3:16)
By Imanuel Ravad

To stand alone with G-d!
Hashem forbade Adam and his wife Chavah to eat the fruit from one tree in order for them to realize that there is a Master to the creation.  Why indeed, the fruit of the tree of knowledge was chosen, which is needed by each one? Since knowledge and understanding, which is not protected with self-control, could destroy the world.  The prohibition to eat the forbidden fruit was designed to test the ability of self-control of Adam and Chavah, and was limited to a short time.  They failed the test, and were sentenced to 10 different penalties to the man and woman.  The penalties were designed to bind human life with many critical problems which would prevent them from devoting time and energy to create means of ruin and destruction of the world, before its due time, which was designed by the Creator to exist until the year 6000 from creation.  Indeed, we witness that the cracking of the nucleus and the invention of nuclear bombs by Professor Einstein, came to be only in the year 5700 to Creation - (1940), when only the last 5% of the time remained until the year 6000 to creation – (1940).  (Tractate Rosh Hashanah 31).  The scientists of the world, claimed at the time, that's impossible that these theories would be discovered by a human mind.  Therefore a team of 30 professors asked his permission for a post-mortem autopsy of his brain, and nothing different than anyone else was found.  So clearly the nuclear cracking was a special divine revelation towards the world's existence end of time.
G-d can create a countless amount of people to fill his world.  However he chose to create a singular man and woman and gave them the power of procreation, to be able to understand that we have a "Heavenly Father" and that he is the main partner in every born baby.  Indeed there are three partners in every human being: G-d, father and mother.
G-d create for us many problems and especially in the power of procreation, so that we will understand that our fate is not in our hands and we must abide to our Creator who require from us to live as husband and wife, parents of children in a family unit.
The first man defined his wife as "Mother." (Bereshit 3:20).  Indeed, the strongest aspiration of every woman since infancy, is to become a mother.  G-d's proclamation about "Bearing children in sadness!" Does not deter women from bearing children, since without children their lives are infinitely even sadder.  And despite pain and sadness "children are Mothers joy of life!" Indeed, the woman reaches her maximal development - both physically and mentally, only after the birth of her first child.  Therefore, in many languages, woman's adjective is different before and after marriage.
Every pregnant woman is facing life danger.  She is the only creature in creation that cannot give birth without the help of a midwife.  In our Forefather Jacob's family one out of 4 wives' (out of 13 pregnancies) died at childbirth (Bereshit 35:16-20).  According to United Nations statistics, today around the world, about 400.000 women die annually in childbirth.  Without medical aid, one out of 16 die yearly in childbirth.  In Israel today, one out of 3 women give birth by Caesarean section.  One of 50.000, 2 per year die in childbirth.  If the surgeon and his team will not be in the right time and place, her life and the life of her foetus are at risk.
During the 5776 years of the world, problems were solved and many diseases were beaten, but the woman's problem of childbirth, which is most important for the continued existence of the world was not solved, and every woman experiences the same problems that faced our Mother Chavah 5776 years ago.  Therefore, in many languages the woman's labor problems are called "Chavah’s problems." All that is from Hashem, so that we will recognize our duty to live our lives according to His instructions as written in Torah laws.
Inscribed in human nature to say: "Please" before and "Thank you" after receiving an item or a service.  The woman's immersion in accordance to Family Purity and Sanctity laws, is a kind of a private seclusion meeting - "To Stand Alone With G-d" in the waters of the Mikva, while bowing and beseeching a Great "Please" from Hashem, for survival and an easy childbirth, beyond for numerous other supplications, so that at a later stage she will be able to joyfully and tearfully express her "Thank you!"
Beyond immersion, the laws of Family Purity and Sanctity, includes additional topics to the husband and wife, among others, exercise in self-control, even in the privacy of our home, which is our castle, where no-one sees us except for G-d.
The Creator who chose us, from all the nations demands of us that our children will be born according to the laws of Family Purity and Sanctity, in order that every Jewish child will merit to win G-d's special blessings for the Jewish People, among others, as "smart and clever, kind and compassionate," a, gift that parents can give their child only once during his lifetime, at the formation of pregnancy.  Do not prevent from the fruit of your womb receiving that great gift which will reward him with blessings during his entire lifetime.
Medical and social statistics confirms that living according to the laws of Family Purity and Sanctity are also more healthy, blessed and happy.

Please refer to books about Family Purity and Sanctity Laws, available from your rabbi or purchase at Jewish bookstores.

Jewish Survival - Part VII

"Mikva!" - Why not take a bath??
During Mikva immersion, among others, we surrender our pride, bow down and accept G-d's Dominion. Therefore, we must immerse in waters that comes to us straight from the source of the Creator, without human intervention. Since while immersing in waters drawn by "human power," (such as a pool, bath etc.), we pride and worship, in contrast, our own human strength.

Mikva immersion is not for the sake of cleansing! Shattering the preconception that the purpose of Mikva immersion is merely for physical cleaning, is proved among others also by:
1. Absolute physical cleanliness is required before Mikva immersion.
2. Men's unintentional immersion does not purify.
3. Certain purifications is not realized immediately upon exiting the Mikva, until nightfall, as written: "Immerse in Mikva and remain non-pure until evening!" (Vayikra 18:15).
Purification is not achieved just with our activity and immersing in Mikva waters, but with the participation of the Creator. As written: "I will throw "Pure" water upon you, and you will become purified!" (Yechezkel 36:25).

My father uses his eyes for Mikva-related writings.  Either way, if you can afford please help out by sending your donation to cover his medical expenses. Thank you. Sincerely, B.S.
Harav Imanuel Ravad, also known as "MikvaTikva," is under my medical care, since 23.7.2015 and supervised by Prof. Weinberg, head of Ophtalmology Dept., Beilinson Hospital
Diagnosis: "Age Related Macular Degeneration."
Treatments: "Avastin" eye injections, 8 until now.
It must be changed to "Lusentis" Injections, which G-d willing will permit him to continue his "Avodas Hakodesh”.
The first three injections are not yet covered by his current medical insurance and $4,000 must be raised as a matter of urgency.

I call upon Yidden of goodwill, who appreciate his "Mikva Education for every Yid”, to help raise the relatively small sums needed for his eye treatment.

May Hashem bless you and yours with good health and Nachas.     Sincerely,

Dr. Muni Mordechai Erlich,
Eye Specialist # 12634 – מ.ת.מ. 09681
